Ahl, Lebap and Hazar branches of Turkmenistan Airlines were merged to one single airline. 08.02.1999
Turkmenistan plans to develop its civil aviation sector in 1998. Turkmenistan Airways expects to profit 55.3 bln Turkmen
Manat and to increase its transaction to 321.1 bln TMM. Seven new international air routes and three new flights to Russia
are planned to be started in 1998. Construction of an airport terminal in the south of Mary and an arrival terminal in east
of Chardzhou airport are been among 1998 projects. Eurasian File 3.98
Turkish Alarko and British John Laing finished their works at Ashgabat Airports runway. Now all restrictions have been
lifted. The runway has a length of 3.800 m, width of 46 m and is ready to accept any aircraft. The contract ( worth 85.2 mln
$ ) included the Headquarter building of Turkmenistan Airlines, air control center and a fire guard building which had been
returned earlier. [25.10.97 DÜNYA & YY] This Project is one of the biggest in Turkmenistan. Turkmen authorities want Ashgabat
to become a transit center between Europe and Asia.
Last November LH upgraded its Ashgabat service to A310-300 equipment. They offer First-Class-Seating and a higher cargo
capacity. Now LH flies three days a week to Baku and onto Ashgabat. April 97
Lufthansa started Ashgabat service via Baku on April 01, 96. Turkmenistan Airlines added one frequency to Abu Dhabi and
Karachi each. The Cadogan Central Asia Guide says that T5 will be delivered a B757 in Jun 96.
